Today, I’d like to share the restoration story of a Gucci long wallet that has accompanied its owner for many years.
Being a wallet carried in hand every day,
the worn edges and melted coating showed traces of time—
quiet but unmistakable marks of long use.
Before Restoration
On items like long wallets that are frequently held,
the edge coating (the finish applied to the leather edges) often wears out faster than the leather itself.
This Gucci wallet arrived with:
- sticky, melted edge coating
- cracked or separated finishing
- areas where the coating had completely come off
In such cases, the solution isn’t simply to apply more coating.
We must remove the damaged layer entirely and rebuild the edge from scratch
to ensure a clean, long-lasting finish.
Restoration Process
We began by removing all damaged edge layers,
then carefully prepared and smoothed the surface.
Next, we applied a new edge coat—
layer by layer, color-matched to the wallet’s leather.
Through repeated cycles of drying and fine sanding,
the edges slowly regained a firm, smooth contour.
A final delicate buffing step created a subtle sheen,
resulting in an elegant, refined finish.
