A striking blue Bottega Veneta men’s wallet arrived at our studio
with worn, peeled, and discolored edges from long-term use.
While the exterior leather was still in relatively good condition,
the edges—being the part touched most often—had deteriorated,
leaving the overall impression noticeably less refined.
For this project, we proceeded with:
full edge removal → leveling → Italian edge-coat reapplication.

Process
1. Full edge removal & precise leveling
Because Bottega’s signature intrecciato texture is delicate,
we removed the old edge coat carefully to avoid lifting or warping the leather.
Ensuring a perfectly even surface before re-coating
is the most important step for achieving a clean, seamless finish.
2. Premium Italian edge-coat reapplication
Blue tones are particularly sensitive—
even slight variations become immediately noticeable.
We tested multiple color blends and selected the shade
that matched most naturally with the original color.
The new edge was applied in thin, multiple layers,
building it up to a clean line close to the original structure.
3. Complimentary cleaning + oiling care
Light surface stains were visible,
so we performed a full cleaning service,
removing most of the visible buildup.
To stabilize the leather condition after cleaning,
we added an oiling treatment as well.
Since a wallet is handled constantly,
it may feel slightly softer and more moisturized right after care,
but over time the leather naturally settles back
into its original comfortable texture.
Finished Result
The previously frayed and uneven edges were re-defined,
allowing Bottega Veneta’s signature blue color
to stand out with renewed clarity.
The “solid, clean edge finish” you feel in the hand
is completely different after restoration.
