Quietly Restoring Its Elegance — GIVENCHY Leather Handle Replacement

Today, we’re sharing a restoration case involving
a GIVENCHY tote bag handle replacement carried out at Lederraum.

Although the bag looked clean and held its shape well,
the handle showed clear signs of creasing, cracking, and partial tearing.

Why Handle Damage Occurs

Even when a bag isn’t particularly heavy or frequently used,
this particular model has a one-piece structure where the handles connect directly to the body.
When the bag is carried at an angled position while filled,
weight is concentrated on a single point, applying continuous stress to the handle.

Over time, this pressure can cause:

• Surface cracking
• Fiber separation within the leather
• Tearing that becomes irreversible

Once the leather begins to tear deeply, restoration becomes impossible,
which is why early replacement is recommended.

Restoration Process

This project required a full handle replacement.

• We closely matched the original GIVENCHY leather’s texture, thickness, and tone
• The new handle was cut and crafted entirely with hand-stitching
• The side edges were finished with Italian edge coat for a smooth, durable finish
• Thread color and thickness were chosen to stay true to the original design

Our goal was to ensure that the replaced handle looked and felt like the original,
preserving the brand’s balance and line.
